I have a 'natural heritaage of singapore' test tommorrow. Its 20% of my final grade. *gulp* I used to find it interesting, but now when I actually need to study it, my brain immediately goes to sleep. Let me share some of what I have learnt so far.
Crows are from Iran.
There are benefits of looking cute. Singaporeans get so irritated by crows that the government set a budget of 1 million dollars for a cull of 50 000 crows. But actually, the common mynahs cause more of a problem then the crows. However, in a recent survey of 226 people, most people are not in favour of killing or poisoning them because their hearts reach out to the mynahs who they find cute, comical and cheeky looking.
You know the chamelon that we see around our houses? They are not Singaporeans. They are from Malaysia and Thailand. They came down to Singapore via the railway station and because they were bigger and more aggresive then our native green agamid which looked better, they displaced our green agamids and they are now all hiding in our forests. Thankfully, this chameleon that we see now likes open spaces and hate the dense dark forest so the green agamid is safe in our forest.
There used to be monkeys in Botanic garden. People used to go there and feed them. But this caused the monkeys to lose their fear of humans and become bolder and harrassed people for food, sometimes mauling them badly. So, they were shot. But some monkeys were pretty smart when they saw their fellow monkeys being shot and so escaped into central catchment nature reserve.
Hostel activities are quite... interesting. Have you ever a CCA that starts at 10pm and 12 pm? Well... most of the hostel activities are like that. I signed up to be part of the pa system team. It did seem utterly boring to me at first but I decided to join it cos the people there are quite nice. Haha... at least the people I know there are quite nice. And most importantly, its slack. Haha... The interview for the committee is at 10.30pm. Haha... at least not so bad as someone I know who got an interview slot of 12.30am. This further convinces me that hostel people need not sleep.
Sigh... I guess I better go and study.
