Going to Switzerland
I went on this overseas programme by the chemistry department in nus. We spent roughly 17 days in Switzerland and 3 days in France.
Switzerland's borders are confusing. Europe's borders are confusing as there are no clearly defined borders in general. Singapore is separated from Malaysia by the sea. Some other nations are separated from each other by a mountain or a river. It seems to me that part of germany's border's spilled over to switzerland creating german-speaking parts like Basel, part of France's border go across to form french-speaking regions of Switzerland like Lausanne and part of Italy's border go across to form Italian-speaking parts like Locarno. It feels like a country where the official borders of Germany, France and Italy spills over and merged to form Switzerland. I nv really felt I was in Switzerland, I felt I was in Germany or France, depending on which region I was in. On some borders, there lies a house. Half of it is situated in France, the other half is in Switzerland. In such instances, I wonder whether the house belongs to France or Switzerland. I must go ask next time.

In Syngenta, where I put on the oh-so-familiar labcoat once again. It dealt with increasing crop productivity to meet the needs of the growing population.
Celebrating a friend's birthday in Bern
Visiting the university of Basel. It was interesting but it got a tad boring after visiting at least 5 more universities. There is only so many NMR, HPLC and mass-spec machines that you want to see as they are all the same.
