Lab
Yesterday's lab was pretty interesting. We got to deal with sodium metal itself as a reagent. It was the first time in my life that I got to see sodium. Previously, I only saw it in videos in secondary school. I was tempted to throw an entire chunk of sodium in water though and see the magnificent explosion it would create . Boom! But if I actually converted this thought into an action, I would have to face the consequences which would probably be expellation from the lab and even nus. Haha...
Phenol looks so innocently harmless, looks like rather pretty white crystal even. But I accidentally touched some of it and it resulted in a chemical burn. Didn't even notice at first until I felt a searing pain on a patch of my skin. To my horror, my skin kinda changed colour and so I panicked and went to the TA to ask him what to do. He told me that its was okay, it only looks bad but it won't result in too much damage done. Then, he took out some glycerine and applied it onto that patch of skin which he said would react with phenol in a dunno what reaction and neutralise it. Thankfully, the pain went away and that patch of skin looked normal again.
A person can feel too tired afterall, and you realise enough is really enough, and thats when u start to feel better.

You never saw sodium in secondary school? I thought there was that at least. To see it whizzing around the little tub of water.
Yeah... I think I saw it whizzing around the little tub of water... in a video. Haha...
