Citizenship and movies

Went to Malaysian high commission to renounce citizenship in the morning today. They are rather inefficient I found out, much to my annoyance. I had to go there today just to get a form and an appointment date to submit the form and for them to process the documents. The worst thing is that the earliest date they can do so is on September 25th. I guess I assumed too much and thought it would all be done in a matter of a few hours and I could go to ICA, the Singaporean side in the afternoon to declare my choice to become a Singaporean.

Since there was no way that I could go to ICA to take a vow as a Singaporean as I needed the form declaring that I had renounce citizenship from the Malaysian side, we decided to go watch a movie instead since there was nothing else to do. Went to watch the mummy: tomb of the dragon emperor. Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh’s Chinese sucks, but at least they spoke Chinese and it didn’t sound and look as weird as Jackie Chan speaking English wearing periodic costumes in ‘the forbidden kingdom’. All in all, it was a rather nice fusion of the east meet west and they manage to make a rather unbelievable plot believable.

Went to watch ‘money no enough II’ too! Watched two movies in a day. Haha… I didn’t really like ‘money no enough II’ as I felt it was too commercialized in a very obvious way. I think OCBC and singtel must have sponsored loads of money for this show. Their brand names were somehow plonked right in the middle of the show with not much linkage to the actual storyline of the movie. I think its good to get sponsors to cut costs in making a movie but they should have slipped in the brand names and the products they offer in a more subtle fashion instead of the in-your-face kind of way.

Hey buddy, thanks for accompanying me today even if we didn’t manage to make it to ICA in the end. =)
