Turning 21
I think its nice to have a birthday in April. It sounds like spring to me.
On this day, I feel thankful.
I feel thankful for the person who treated me to dinner last night and gave me a birthday gift. I was touched by what you have given me. It struck me then how much you knew me, knew my likes and dislikes and kept that in mind when you chose a gift for me. It seems like an ordinary gift in the eyes of others, but I like it very much, because of the thought you put into it.
I feel thankful for the person who came to my hall in the night just to wish me happy birthday and pass me a gift. I especially like the card even if it was in chinese which took me a long time to figure out all the words! Haha... but I like it because it was in chinese. It is something that I will keep and cherish and take it out at times to re-read the words especially when I am down.
I feel thankful for the person who came to my room at midnight to give me a cake and sing me a birthday song. Thanks for making me laugh on my birthday. I will miss you when I move out of hall next semester.
I feel thankful for the person who called me all the way from Australia to wish me happy birthday! Take care k and lets meet up when you are back in Singapore! We still have not gone on our trip to visit the farms in kranji countryside.
I feel thankful for the person who treated me to dinner today. Honestly, I didn't expect you to remember my birthday, much less treat me to to dinner. Thanks for eating dinner with me today, it was a much better option than eating comm hall food. Haha...
I feel thankful for the people who wished me happy birthday. Though the same message 'happy birthday' kept repeating itself in various forms through sms-es, the joy I felt was never diminished with each message because you remembered!
On this day, I feel free,
free from the bonds that bounded me as a child,
that nearly suffocated me as a youth.
I truly feel my own person now,
whose destiny lies in my own hands.
Yet another chapter has come to a close,
which means another is just beginning.
I continue on this journey called life,
on a new page, as an adult.
On this day, I feel thankful.
